Time to Work!!!!

So we leave for camp on Friday so that way we can complete our projects!!! However, before then, I need to complete my poster board!! I have a pretty awesome curriculum prepared for Friday, and, now, I am hoping that we will not have any cloudy weather!  I am so excited to go to camp that words cannot not even express my ecstatic feelings!! I hope to see all my followers at camp and may you have a great Labor Day Weekend!!!!

WHOOT!!!!

Well, today was the official finish date of our Journey!!! Surprisingly, we happened to finish all of our Gold Award prerequisites before our work began! The girls seemed to have a good time and, hopefully, we have just created a new generation of self-confident kick butt girls!!!!! I still haven't heard back from Woodland Hills, so I am guessing that they don't want to answer, or their mail got lost AGAIN! Oh well!!! I am just happy about our Dove Workshop!!!!! =D

More stuff to do!!!!

Ok so it has been awhile since I put up my last post, but here is what has been happening....

1.  Camp was officially cancelled, but a new date has been set up for Labor Day weekend (lets just hope we can get everything done in time!)
2. We got to go to Sunspot in order to plan the new weekend. (OMG! EVERYTHING IS SO COOL!)
3. I have gotten so many new offers for new material and other telescopes!
4. I am so stoked to try and get my project done so I can try it out at Camp Oro Quay!!!
5. Here is the list of other things I have done that haven't been exactly quite glamourous....

• wrote thank you notes to Tracy McFadden and Woodland Hills Camera and Telescope
• Made copies of all the returned letters back and forth to contacts.
• contacted Girl Scouts about some questions that came up at the meeting at Sunspot
• Working on the curriculum for the Astronomy Unit
• Picked out some cool things to put on the poster board that will intrigue the kids to get interested in Astronomy
• Slowly starting to freak out!!!!

So I guess that should be it............. hopefully that helped clear up some of the mystery as to my sudden disappearance from the blogging scene!!!

Sweet!

So on July 2nd, I received a phone call from our house sitter saying that a strange package had arrived.  He told me that when he opened it, he saw that there was a very nice telescope inside.  It was the donated item from Woodland Hills Camera and Telescope!  I am quite excited about this donation and I cannot wait to get home to see the beautiful telescope!  In the mean time, I have been collecting quite a bit of data about different constellations and what times of the year that they can be seen.  On the same day that I received the phone call, I planned out my entire program and made a rough draft of how I want the poster board to look.  In short, everything is slowly coming together.  =)  Now if we can only get to camp!!!

First Donation as well as bad news.........

On the 25th of June, the troop and I received some bad news that can jeopardize all of our projects.  Because of all the recent fires that have been burning all of New Mexico, as well as Arizona, all of the forests have been closed to the public.  The Friends of Camp Mary White met with the owner of the camp to see if it would still be wise to hold camp in the extreme fire danger.  In short, no.  However, Barbara, the owner of the camp, said that if we received at least 4 inches of rain in the next couple of weeks, she would allow our troop to go down to camp in order to complete our projects.  Over the last two days, while the entire troop has been praying for lots and lots of rain, I received a phone call from Woodland Hills Camera and Telescope, a company located in Woodland Hills, California.  They received my donation letter and sent out a package with a surprise item inside.  I am quite excited to see the package and I am so happy.  Now I have to write a Thank You Note!!!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH WOODLAND HILLS CAMERA AND TELESCOPE!!!!!! Now its just time to pray for lots of rain!!!!!!

Letters are off and on their way!!!!

So today I finished all of the donation letters that I needed in order to get some more astronomy supplies and furniture.  It was a long and hard process, but in the end I sent out 14 letters to furniture stores and astronomy places.  Hopefully, I will get some responses here soon!!!!!!!

Good to Go!!!!!!

We have not officially received an email stating that our projects are all a go but, on our field trip yesterday to the Girl Scout hut, we were able to talk to Carol Ann Short.  Carol Ann Short is one of the members of the Gold Award Committee and she told us that we needed to get a letter from FCMW (Friends of Camp Mary White) in order to begin our projects.  In short, we have been approved!!!!!!!!!  The happiness that I feel in my heart right now is beyond words.  Let's just hope now that God will grant New Mexico some rain so we can complete our Gold Awards!!!!
